I bought this DOCHAIS 14-pair flat back earring set because I wanted something cheap and simple for second and third lobe piercings, plus a few options for my niece who has sensitive ears. The promise is basically: a bunch of small studs and hoops, hypoallergenic steel, and flat backs you can sleep in. On paper it ticks a lot of boxes, especially for the price and the number of pairs you get.

In practice, I’ve worn several pairs on rotation for about two weeks: I slept in them, showered with them, wore headphones, and used masks with ear loops. I also let my niece (10 years old) try a couple of the smaller designs over a weekend. So this isn’t a lab test, just normal daily use: school run, office, gym, couch, that kind of thing. My ears are on the sensitive side, so I usually react quickly if the metal is low quality.

Design-wise, the main point is variety. You’ve got hearts, flowers, a rainbow, butterfly, fake pearl studs, plus the little animals. Some are more cartoon-like (the tortoise and rabbit especially), which my niece loved. For me as an adult, I ended up mostly using the simpler CZ studs, the faux pearls, and the small hoops. The more playful ones I’d keep for kids or for a casual day when you don’t care if it looks a bit childish.

The metal colour is a standard silver tone, not too shiny, not super matte. It doesn’t scream high quality, but it doesn’t look cheap from a normal distance either. Up close you can see that the detailing on the animals and rainbow is not super sharp, but we’re talking about tiny pieces that people see from a few steps away, so it’s not a big deal. The CZ stones have a decent sparkle under normal light. They’re obviously not diamonds, but they catch light enough to look nice in daylight and office lighting.

Overall, I’d say comfort is one of the strong points of this set, as long as your lobes aren’t very thick. They’re light, flat at the back, and low profile. The trade-off is the slightly annoying process of screwing the backs on and off, and the fact that very small pieces are easy to drop. But once they’re in, you can pretty much forget about them, which is what I wanted.

The brand says these are made from 316L surgical steel, lead-free and nickel-free. I obviously can’t lab-test that, but I can talk about how my ears reacted. I have moderately sensitive ears: with cheap alloy earrings my lobes usually get red and itchy within a few hours. With these, I wore the CZ studs and one pair of hoops for three full days, including sleeping and showering. I had no itching, no redness, no swelling. That’s a good sign for me.

My niece also has sensitive skin and just got her ears re-pierced a few months ago. She wore the small flower studs for a full day at school and then the rainbow ones the next day. She didn’t complain once about pain or itching, and when we took them off in the evening, her lobes looked normal. So for everyday wear, the material seems decent for sensitive ears. Of course, if someone is extremely reactive, I’d still say test them for a few hours first.

The CZ stones are what you’d expect at this price: they shine enough, they’re clear, and after showers and sweat they didn’t lose colour or cloud over in the two weeks I used them. The fake pearls also kept their colour; no peeling or weird spots so far. The metal itself hasn’t changed colour either – no green marks on the skin, no obvious tarnish yet. Two weeks isn’t long-term, but cheap alloys usually start misbehaving faster than that on me.

If I compare them to earrings I’ve had from random no-name sellers, these feel a notch better in terms of skin reaction and finish. They’re not on the same level as solid gold or high-end brands, obviously, but for “throw them on and forget them” jewellery, the material is pretty solid. The only thing to watch is the threads on the screw backs: they can trap a bit of dirt or soap, so you need to clean them once in a while to avoid irritation.

On durability, I obviously can’t speak for years, but after about two weeks of daily use, the set is holding up better than I thought it would. I showered, slept, and exercised in them. The silver colour hasn’t flaked off, there’s no visible rust, and the CZ stones haven’t popped out. That’s already better than some cheap sets I’ve had where stones started loosening within a few days.

The screw backs still screw on smoothly, which means the threads haven’t worn down in this short period. That said, I did notice that if you don’t screw them all the way until they gently stop, they can slowly loosen over a couple of days. I lost one back in bed, probably from not tightening it properly. So I’d say: give them a firm but gentle final twist when you put them on, and maybe check them every few days.

The hoops’ hinges still click firmly. I opened and closed one pair at least 15–20 times while swapping between my ears and my niece’s. No bending or misalignment yet. I did try to bend one hoop slightly to see how flexible it was – it resisted enough that I didn’t feel like it would snap easily, but I wouldn’t push my luck. They’re thin, so if you’re rough, you could probably deform them.

In terms of finish, none of the pieces have sharp edges that caught on clothing or scratched my skin. That’s important for kids. The painted or coloured elements (like the rainbow) haven’t chipped yet, but that’s the part I’m most skeptical about long term. With repeated knocks or if a kid plays with them a lot, I can see that paint wearing off faster than the plain metal and CZ designs. The hoops are tiny, about 10 mm inner diameter as listed, which basically hugs the lobe. On my adult ears, they sit close and don’t dangle much. On my niece’s smaller ears they look more like small hoops with a bit of space. So be aware: if you like big, visible hoops, these will feel very small.

Overall, the presentation is simple but clear: you open the box, you see everything at a glance, and you can immediately pick which ones you want to wear. Nothing fancy, but for this price point I’m fine with that. It feels like a practical, bulk set rather than a special-occasion gift piece.
